Shawnee's hills, creek valleys and Kansas River frontage make for interesting home sites and plenty of settled concrete. Metro Wide raises sunken driveways, sidewalks, stoops and patios with polyurethane foam, which keeps your existing slab in place and avoids a tear-out.
Shawnee stretches from older neighborhoods around downtown and Nieman Road west to newer subdivisions near K-7, with the Kansas River forming much of its northern edge. The eastern part of the city filled in largely after World War II, and many of those homes have driveways and walks that have been settling for more than half a century. Farther west, homes built in the 1990s and 2000s sit on lots carved into rolling ground, where steep driveways and walk-out basements are common.
That mix shows up in the calls we get. In older parts of Shawnee it is often a front stoop that has tipped toward the house or a walk with a dropped square at every joint. In newer areas it is more often a driveway panel next to the garage, or a patio off a walk-out lower level that has sunk on one side. Polyurethane foam lifting raises these slabs through small ports and lets you skip the jackhammer, the dumpster and the wait for new concrete to cure.

Local Conditions
Why concrete settles in Shawnee.
A lot of Shawnee is built on slopes. On a hillside lot, the builder usually cuts into the high side and fills the low side to create a flat pad for the house and driveway. That fill is the soil most likely to compress over time, so it is common to see a driveway or patio drop on its downhill edge while the uphill side stays put. Water running down the slope after heavy rain can also wash soil out from under the low corner.
The soils themselves are mostly clay-rich upland soils that swell when wet and shrink when dry, and Mill Creek, Clear Creek and other streams cut through the city on their way to the Kansas River. Near the river in northern Shawnee, ground closer to the floodplain can hold more moisture and stay softer. Freeze-thaw cycles every winter work on all of it, opening small gaps that grow a little each year.
When we lift a slab on a sloped lot, we look at where the water goes. Gutters that dump at the corner of a driveway, or a patio that drains back toward the house, are worth fixing at the same time, and we will tell you what we see.
Signs your slab has lost support
A lip or step-up at a driveway, sidewalk, or garage joint
A patio or walk that tips toward the house
Gaps opening between steps, stoops, and the foundation
Water pooling on a slab or flowing toward the home
Hollow sounds or visible washout along a slab edge
Common Shawnee Projects
The concrete we lift most often in Shawnee.
Every slab is different, so we start with what is happening at your property. These are the repairs Shawnee property owners ask us about most.
Sloped driveways
On hillside lots, the low side of a driveway often settles first and leaves a twisted panel or an open joint that collects water. We lift the dropped section back into line with its neighbors where the slab is still intact, which reduces the edge at the joint and the water that sits there.
Front stoops and steps
Many older Shawnee homes have concrete stoops that have rotated toward the foundation or pulled away from it. Foam can raise a solid stoop and the walk in front of it to reduce the step-up and the gap at the house. Hollow or badly cracked steps may need other repairs, and we will say so.
Walk-out patios
Homes with walk-out lower levels often have patios poured on backfill against the foundation wall. When that soil compresses, the patio slopes toward the house and water collects at the door. Lifting the house side can restore pitch away from the foundation where grades allow.
Church, office and apartment walks
Sidewalks and entries at offices, churches, apartment communities and shopping centers along Shawnee Mission Parkway and Johnson Drive can develop trip edges at the joints. Foam leveling addresses many of these with limited disruption to the people coming and going.

My Shawnee home sits on a hill. Can a sloped driveway be lifted?
Yes, in most cases. Lifting does not require the slab to be flat; it requires the concrete to be intact enough to raise as a piece. We inject foam under the low areas to bring them back into line with the surrounding panels while keeping the driveway's intended slope. Sections that are broken into many small pieces may be better replaced, and we will point those out.
Why does my patio keep sinking on the side next to the house?
The soil closest to a foundation is usually backfill, placed after the basement walls were built. It is looser than the undisturbed ground farther out and tends to settle for years, especially when downspouts or a walk-out drain keep it wet. Foam fills the voids and lifts the slab, and redirecting roof water away from that area helps keep it supported afterward.
Do you work in both eastern and western Shawnee?
Yes. We serve the whole city, from the older neighborhoods near Nieman Road and Johnson Drive to newer subdivisions near K-7 and the Kansas River. The easiest way to start is to text photos of the slab, a close-up of the low joint and your address. We will follow up with a quote or any questions, and an initial onsite visit is not always needed.
How big are the holes you drill?
Polyfoam lifting uses small access ports, much smaller than the holes used for traditional mudjacking. The number and placement depend on the slab. After the lift, the ports are patched.
How much does concrete leveling cost in Shawnee?
Pricing depends on the size of the slab, how far it has settled, how much void space is underneath, access, and how many areas need work, so we do not publish a flat price. Text photos, rough measurements, and your Shawnee address and we can usually provide a remote quote. Leveling is often far less disruptive than tearing out and replacing a slab that is still usable.
How soon can I use my driveway or walkway after leveling?
Polyurethane foam cures quickly, so foot traffic and normal use can usually resume much sooner than with newly poured concrete. The exact timing depends on the repair, and we give you specific instructions when the work is finished.
